Memo to all city docs:
Don’t plan a Hawaiian vacation or golf trip the last week of August.
That’s when the Republican National Convention hits town, and the city wants a full complement of doctors and nurses on hand at each of its 11 hospitals, four nursing facilities and 100 or so health-care clinics.
Some hospital staffers said their bosses told them they couldn’t take any days off between Aug. 30 and Sept. 2, when 50,000 delegates and their families descend on the Big Apple.
But the city says there was no direct order telling them to stay put.
“If people are feeling that way, well, it’s ordinarily a time that’s so slow, there isn’t much attention given to vacation schedules,” said Kathleen McGrath, a spokeswoman for the city’s Health and Hospitals Corporation.
About 5,000 doctors and 6,600 nurses work for city hospitals.
Meanwhile, cops planning for convention security will attend the G-8 summit in Savannah, Ga., June 8-10, and the Democratic Party convention in Boston July 26-29.
The goal is to check out how Secret Service agents, who oversee security, work with local law enforcement, and to learn from any problems that might crop up.
