Willie Randolph’s first season as Mets manager doesn’t start until April, but the work begins now.
Tomorrow, Randolph will walk into Shea Stadium to begin his first official week on the job, and he’ll already have a few things to take care of.
Heres a look at what Randolph’s to-do list should entail:
GET SOME HELP
– Hire a few coaches to help me along.
– Pitching master Rick Peterson, check.
– Talk to Omar Minaya and figure out who’s handling the rest.
– Hitting: Gary Denbo, Rick Down, Rudy Jaramilllo?
– Bench: Sandy Alomar Sr., Terry Collins
– Corner bases: Howard Johnson, Ken Oberkfell, Edgar Alfonso?
FEEL AT HOME
– Redecorate manager’s office at Shea.
– Frame some photos, move into new pad.
KEEP IN TOUCH
– Continue to call players on the roster
– Show I’m a strong communicator
FILL OUT THE ROSTER
– Omar will be at GM meeting this week.
– Formulate game plan for the offseason.
– Exchange ideas and talk baseball with the front office.
