ALBANY – Add skateboarders to the list of activities for which kids must now wear helmets.
Gov. Pataki yesterday signed into law legislation requiring kids under the age of 14 to wear safety helmets beginning Jan. 1.
The requirements are the same as those already imposed on kids who ride bikes and use in-line skates.
The new law also prohibits skateboarders from attaching themselves to moving vehicles and restricts them from carrying any items that obstruct their view.
A first violation will result in a warning to the parent or guardian. Subsequent violations can carry a fine of up to $50.
