Travelers yesterday braved rainy weather and long lines at airports during the busiest travel day of the year.
Passengers jammed into La Guardia Airport, trying to get a jump on the holiday weekend.
“We were expecting long lines, but we didn’t think so many people would be traveling to Canada,” said Arlene Gillies, 63, who waited 30 minutes at the Air Canada check-in counter for her flight to Saskatoon.
The Transportation Security Administration said travelers should be aware of new screening measures at airports.
The TSA warned air travelers this week there would be more pat-down searches even if people don’t set off metal detectors.
An estimated 37.2 million Americans will travel by car, plane or train over the four-day weekend.
