JET NOTES
Chad Pennington didn’t just throw for the second straight day yesterday, he participated in the entire practice, slowly but steadily making his way back into the lineup after suffering a right shoulder injury three weeks ago against Buffalo.
Pennington was not available for comment yesterday, but coach Herman Edwards said the Jet quarterback was a bit on the sore side when he woke up in the morning after throwing for the first time Wednesday at practice.
“He’s a little sore, but he’s fine,” Edwards said. “He’s obviously not at 100-percent, but that’s the first stage of him trying to come back. He got through it OK.”
Expected to miss the predetermined four weeks with the injury, No. 10 picked up the pace of his throwing yesterday, accelerating the length of his tosses, the speed he delivered them and the duration for which he threw.
“All of the above,” Edwards said.
Edwards has kept a steady line of communication open with his franchise quarterback and said the two are on the same page as far as how Pennington feels and how rapidly the injury is healing.
“We’ve been talking all the time,” Edwards said. “We’ve been talking for the last three weeks together, so I kinda know where he’s at. It’s a matter of him just continuing to throw. We’ll see how he feels every time he throws.”
Pennington is not expected to throw today, but will resume this weekend before the Jets face the Cardinals in Arizona on Sunday.
“He won’t throw [today], I don’t think,” Edwards said. “He’ll probably rest [today]. Maybe over the weekend, he’ll throw a little bit.”

RB Curtis Martin (bruised knee), LB Jason Glenn (forearm) and S Rashad Washington (foot) are probable Sunday, while FS Jon McGraw (groin), WR Jerricho Cotchery (hamstring) and OLB Victor Hobson (high ankle sprain) are questionable.

Jets are 3-2 all-time against the Cardinals and won, 31-21, in their only meeting at Arizona. Tortured Jets fans will remember that was their only win of the 1996 season.
