A stray pit bull yesterday attacked a 7-year-old Brooklyn girl – who was saved when an off-duty cop shot the ferocious animal.
The brown brindle dog bit the child’s arm on the corner of Linden Boulevard and Atkins Road in East New York.
Cops said an officer from the 63rd Precinct in Flatlands saw the attack as he was passing by.
He shot the pit bull in the neck – and only then did the dog release her arm.
The child was then rushed to Brookdale Hospital.
The dog was taken to the Animal Care and Control Center, close to the scene of the mauling, and put to sleep.
Just last week, two Bronx sisters suffered minor injuries when they were bitten by a pit bull on a Kingsbridge street.
Cops said the girls, ages 12 and 15, were bitten on their legs at West 238th Street and Greystone Avenue.
They were taken to Montefiore Hospital in stable condition.
Emergency Service Unit cops shot that pit bull with a tranquilizer dart and took it to the Animal Care and Control.
The center has been responsible for the city’s municipal animal shelter system since 1995, rescuing and finding caring owners for homeless and abandoned pets.
