‘OFFICE’ BOY

HERE’S a sneak peek at the smarmy, slicked-back boss who will star in the much-anticipated American version of “The Office.”

Based on the award-winning British comedy starring Ricky Gervais (below), NBC is betting American audiences will fall for Michael Scott as they have for the original, David Brent.

In NBC’s “The Office: An American Workplace,” scheduled to debut next year, Steve Carell plays Scott, a single, middle-aged regional manager of the Dunder-Mifflin paper supply company in Scranton, Pa.

In the show, Scott fancies himself as the “office funnyman” but has no clue that his employees really despise him – and only tolerate his hilariously inappropriate behavior because he signs the paychecks.

In the orginal BBC series, Gervais created one of the most memorable TV comedy characters in recent times with his portrayl of Brent, the obnoxious “boss from hell.”

The show captured a truckload of awards and is a huge cult hit here on DVD.
