Customers of the Times Square Toys ‘R’ Us yesterday said the flagship store lacked its normal Christmas bustle, one day after pepper spray forced the evacuation of some 3,000 customers.
“It’s deserted today,” said Terri Sinatra, 47.
“Usually, you’re here an hour for the Ferris wheel,” she added, referring to the megastore’s 60-foot rotating amusement ride.
“Today it was real quick.”
Cops were still trying to figure out exactly how the noxious vapors got loose in an elevator inside the store at Broadway and 44th Street.
Nobody was seriously injured, but 20 customers and employees got medical attention.
Sinatra and husband Frank, of Bernardsville, N.J., traditionally spend the weekend after Thanksgiving in the city and both agree they’ve never seen the Toys ‘R’ Us so empty.
Toys ‘R’ Us spokeswoman Sue McLaughlin agreed that the store was seeing fewer customers yesterday.
“I think you’re going to see less traffic on Sunday,” she said. “This is a huge travel day.”
