H.S. NOTES
On the eve of his senior season opener against Holy Cross last week, St. Francis Prep RB Jeffrey Aime went to St. John’s University with his quarterback, Mike Garaufis, and the two of them did drills together.
“I wanted to get a feel for the field,” Aime said. “It was good to be out there just with Mike.”
Aime had a similar feeling during the game itself. The 5-9, 180-pounder rushed for 282 yards – including 216 in the first half – and all six touchdowns on Friday. The Terriers slost 56-45, but Aime quickly showed that he is one of the CHSFL’s most dominant offensive stars.
“It was definitely the best game I’ve ever had,” Aime said. “But it wasn’t enough, so the stats don’t really matter.”
Without Aime, St. Francis Prep wouldn’t have had a chance. His performance was reminiscent of the games his cousin Woody had when he starred at Holy Cross.
Aime wants to play in college, but he hasn’t received much interest, despite his solid academic standing. And he’s already getting a feel for the college game. He went to see Woody, now a cornerback at C.W. Post, play the next day.
“Woody is the reason I play,” Aime said. “I didn’t start playing football until I was a freshman when he told me I should. I always wanted to play basketball. I didn’t think much about football.”
It’s a good thing he listened.

PSAL director Donald Douglas said that the Harlem Hellfighters, a football program based at Wadleigh consisting of players from 13 schools in Manhattan and The Bronx without teams, returns to action on Saturday.
The team forfeited its season opener against Jefferson last week because it didn’t have enough eligible players on its roster. Stevenson also forfeited and its game against Bryant this week remains in jeopardy.

Tilden will dedicate its field on Saturday to the late Bernie Mars, who coached the team for 27 years.
