HOLLYWOOD’S most competitive sport – red-carpet dressing – hit new, super-stylish heights last night as small-screen sirens struck a colorful pose in the high-stakes battle to score a best-dressed nod.
And nobody upstaged the glamazons of “Desperate Housewives,” who all looked cover-girl hot.
Our fashion Emmy goes to Eva Longoria – the only resident of Wisteria Lane who failed to get an Emmy nomination.
Her cool, coral Grecian-inspired gown, which featured a richly jeweled turquoise and gold scooped neckline, was designed by Venezuelan whiz Angel Sanchez.
An increasingly elegant Teri Hatcher placed.
Her sinuous, strapless, chiffon goddess gown – with a delicate crystal embroidered high-waist and long, dramatic train – was created by Madison Avenue favorite Gilles Mendel.
Marcia Cross looked effortlessly chic in a low-waisted, corset-bodiced peacock-blue gown designed by Elie Saab – the same designer who created Debra Messing’s horribly frumpy, coffee-colored confection with a garish, showgirl-style sequined peek-a-boo neckline.
Felicity Huffman, who wore a Kevan Hall red satin cowl neck gown with crystal-encrusted straps looked foxy, while reformed tartlet Nicolette Sheridan sagely toned it down in a simple, strapless pink sheath and loose, casual ponytail.
The prominent trend of the night – rich, bold bursts of color – left those who choose dowdy head-to-toe black – like Glenn Close (in Armani), Patricia Heaton (Monqiue Lhuillier) and the very pregnant Jennifer Garner (Badgley Mischka) – looking sadly out of the fashion loop.
Attention-grabbers included Halle Berry, who shrugged off her usual award-show vamp gown in favor of an understated Ungaro brilliant blue sheath. And lipstick lesbian Portia de Rossi, whose pleated apricot chiffon gown, by Nina Ricci, was both fashion-forward and flattering.
