ALREADY SPOILED FOR WILLIE

MET NOTES

Nine of the Mets’ final 13 games this year will be played against clubs still in playoff contention. But even if the Mets play spoiler, it won’t do anything for Willie Randolph.

The manager said yesterday he doesn’t take much out of hurting other clubs’ playoff opportunities.

“Spoilers are losers, man. I don’t believe in spoiling,” Randolph said. “Go out and win games. If you happen to be a team that gets in the way of someone who’s in the hunt, that’s too bad for them. But I don’t ever want my team to feel good about being a spoiler. That’s a losing mentality.”

The Mets have two games left (after last night) against Florida, and three each against contenders Washington and Philadelphia, before ending the year with a four-game set against Colorado.

The Mets announced their Hurricane Katrina contributions yesterday, sending money to six organizations.

The current donation is $625,000 in combined contributions from the New York Mets Foundation, the players, field staff, office staff and fans. But COO Jeff Wilpon said money was still being donated and the eventual total will be even higher.

The six charities the Mets selected are the American Red Cross, America’s Second Harvest, ASPCA Disaster Relief Fund, Texas Children’s Hospital, Convoy of Hope and New Orleans Police Relief Fund.

Wilpon would not comment much on the Mets’ season. Said the COO, “The only thing I can say is, You are what your record says you are in sports. We are what we are.”

The Mets’ win last night put them at 74-76.

Chris Woodward (tight right calf) said yesterday he believed he could play. . . . It looks as if the Mets will honor Mike Piazza with a video tribute at some point during the final weekend of the season.

David Wright has not homered in 22 games.

. . . Jose Reyes stole his 55th base last night and is only one behind the White Sox’s Scott Podsednik for the major league lead.
