LIL’ KIM WANTS PHILADELPHIA FREEDOM

Lawyers for Lil’ Kim are mounting a fight to get the hip-hop diva moved from a grim prison in downtown Philadelphia to a bucolic prison camp.

“She feels she’s going to be fine. It’s just not the best place to have people work off their time and grow during the process,” said her attorney, L. Londell McMillan. “Most inmates [in her situation] are put in a camp. “She’s in good spirits. She said the inmates and the people have been fine so far. The facility administrators have been fine and fair with her,” he said.

Lil’ Kim – whose real name is Kimberly Jones – had hoped to be sent to a camp in Danbury, Conn. or Alderson, W.Va. – where Martha Stewart served her five-month prison term.

Instead, the rapper was forced to report Monday to an the Philadelphia Federal Detention Center, an urban jail that functions mainly as a temporary holding place for pretrial inmates but contains one floor for minimum- and low-security female prisoners who have already been sentenced.

McMillan said he wants the pint-sized star moved not just for her own sake but for the good of Philadelphia.

“It’s probably not the best for that city. There’s so much traffic from people screaming for Lil’ Kim at the prison,” he said.

Lil’ Kim was sentenced to a year and a day for lying to a federal grand jury about a shootout involving her posse outside Hot 97’s radio station in Manhattan.
