Nearly 100 million travelers used the New York area’s three airports in 2005 as our skies surpassed Chicago’s to become the busiest in the nation.
Port Authority officials said that although they’re pleased traffic is soaring given the steep declines in the years following 9/11, the increases highlight the need to build new terminals and perhaps even a new airport.
“Our 10-year strategic plan was created in part to address this welcome development of increased passenger traffic at our airports,” Port Authority Chairman Anthony Coscia said.
