Three West Virginia mineworkers were laid to rest yesterday, and two others were waked – as the Senate scheduled hearings into the Sago mine tragedy that killed 12 men.
At the Buckhannon Union Mission Church, mourners remembered Jim Bennett, the 61-year-old shuttle-car operator.
“I believe that down in the pits of that Sago mine, there was one fella, not tall in stature perhaps, but he was telling the boys, ‘You better get ready. We’re going to meet Jesus,’ ” said the Rev. Dennis Estes of Bennett.
Also buried yesterday were Thomas P. Anderson, 39, and Marshall Winans, 50. Wakes were held for Fred Ware Jr., 59, and Terry Helms, 50.
Meanwhile, doctors said it was too soon for a prognosis on survivor Randal McCloy Jr., 26.
