*** An ex-con, recently released from prison after 12 years, was arrested for slashing a livery driver in the face during a robbery, authorities said yesterday.
George Synodinos, 38, was busted Sunday and charged with assault, menacing, robbery, grand larceny and weapons possession after the 50-year-old driver, Igaz Mohammad, identified him from surveillance photos, sources said.
The incident began at about 1:50 p.m. on Dec. 4, when Mohammad picked up Synodinos, who asked to be taken to Midwood.
Soon, though, Synodinos allegedly pulled a knife, put it to Mohammad’s neck and demanded cash.
Mohammad took out $70, but Synodinos apparently was not satisfied and slashed Mohammad in the face, prompting the driver to run from the car, the sources said.
The ex-con sped off as a surveillance camera in the car snapped his picture, according to the sources.
Later, police found the car abandoned in Coney Island – with the surveillance photos of Synodinos.
Mohammad identified him as the slasher from the picture.
State records show Synodinos pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery in 1993. He was released from Sing Sing in August 2005.
*** A man and his girlfriend were arrested after attacking each other on a Canarsie street, authorities said yesterday.
Kimmarley Grant, 25, clashed with Maxine Legall, 31, outside Grant’s home on East 81st Street near Glenwood Road at about 6:45 a.m. Sunday, sources said.
Grant said Legall bit his arm and bashed him in the head with a slab of wood. Legall said Grant pummeled her face and banged her head against a car.
After Grant called police, the couple was busted and charged with assault, menacing and harassment. Both were treated for injuries at Brookdale Hospital and released.
QUEENS
*** (LCF) An Astoria man was found stabbed to death in his home yesterday, police said.
Cops rushed to the 31st Avenue home of the 45-year-old victim, whose identity was withheld, after a concerned neighbor heard commotion and called 911 at about 5:30 p.m.
They found the man’s body in the basement apartment where he had been stabbed several times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
*** A Long Island man was found dead inside a Jamaica hotel, police said yesterday.
The body of Hammed Bello, 37, of Central Islip, was discovered inside the Radisson Hotel at 135-30 140th St. at 2:27 a.m. Sunday, cops said.
EMS workers pronounced Bello dead at the scene. Police sources say he was a heavy drinker and investigators do not suspect foul play.
*** An 80-year-old man was clinging to life yesterday after being struck by a car in Flushing, police said.
Kuo Jung Lai was crossing the intersection of 56th Avenue and Main Street when he was hit by a 1999 Saturn at 2:54 p.m. Sunday.
The driver told cops he was driving westbound on 56th Avenue when Lai appeared in his path.
Lai, of Maple Avenue, was rushed to New York Hospital of Queens. He is in critical condition with severe head trauma.
The driver was not issued any summonses, as police have deemed the incident an accident.
STATEN ISLAND
*** A 27-year-old man was busted for snatching a woman’s purse in New Brighton, authorities said yesterday.
Jeffrey Gatling allegedly swiped the bag in front of 115 Cassidy Place at 7:35 p.m. Sunday.
The victim suffered bruising and swelling on her left shoulder.
Gatling was charged with grand larceny, assault and resisting arrest.
*** An Elm Park man was arrested for weapons possession after cops caught him driving the wrong way down a one-way street in Port Richmond, law-enforcement sources said yesterday.
Francisco Moreno, 22, was busted at the corner of Port Richmond Ave and Catherine Street at 6:20 a.m. Sunday after cops saw him allegedly driving against the flow of traffic. They then found he had a suspended driver’s license, the sources said.
When he was searched, cops found an 8-inch steak knife in his jacket pocket, authorities said.
Moreno was charged with weapons possession and traffic violations.
*** The manager of a Stapleton bar was busted for having a gambling game inside the nightspot she runs, authorities said yesterday.
Angelina Urena, 49, was arrested by vice cops inside the Upscalez Bar at 523 Bay St. at around 10:25 p.m. Sunday, law-enforcement sources said.
Urena allegedly had a video slot machine that allowed players to receive extended playtime based on chance rather than on winning.
She was charged with possession of a gambling device.
