AFTER his marriage broke up a few years ago, Josh Rouse left his hometown in central Tennessee for Valencia, Spain. His latest disc, “Nashville” was his goodbye to music city. His upcoming “Subtitulo” will reflect Spanish influence.
On his June-released, iTunes-only EP, you can hear his gorgeous acoustic cover of the Clash’s “Straight to Hell” (myspace.com/Joshrouse). He’s at Joe’s Pub (425 Lafayette St.; [212] 539-8770) on Monday and Tuesday.
MONDAY: Experimental pop act Deerhoof (myspace.com/deerhoof) veers wildly within an album and within a song.
At one moment, listen to sweet-tooth-satisfying vocals sprinkled with sugary keyboards in “Green Cosmos,” then switch to the chaotic punk of “Siriustar” – both gently topped by the lilt of Satomi Matsuzaki.
The San Francisco foursome performs at Bowery Ballroom (6 Delancey St.; [212] 533-2111) on Monday.
WEDNESDAY: As part of the New York Guitar Festival, “Blues Fallin’ Down Like Rain” continues at Merkin Hall (129 West 67th St.; [212] 501-3303) with music of bluesman Charlie Patton by John Hammond, Rory Block, Dave Tronzo and Toshi Reagon.
THURSDAY: Vote at the Plug Awards (plugawards.com) to show love for indies: the catchy Clap Your Hands Say Yeah or the intense Sufjan Stevens (both up for album of the year).
Hit Webster Hall (125 East 11th St.; [212] 353-1600) for the awards show and for a live jukebox of acts including the National and Celebration, plus deejay James F!@#$% Friedman.
