The head of a construction company demolished the feds’ case that he paid thousands of dollars in bribes to mob-connected union officials in order to save barrels of money in wages and benefits.
A Manhattan federal jury yesterday acquitted John Amicucci, owner of DeFoe Corporation, of conspiracy and unlawful labor payment charges after nearly two days of deliberations.
Amicucci had been charged with delivering cash to officials in Operating Engineers’ Local 14.
Defense lawyer Gerald Shargel accused several crooked officials of fabricating their testimony.
“This was a group of union thugs who were trying to escape their own thuggery and the jury didn’t buy it,” Shargel said.
