This isn’t your father’s recliner.
It’s a space-age pod called the Oculas – the ultimate play station, rolling music, video, computer and television entertainment into one.
Starting at $42,000, the pods will hit Manhattan this spring. Until then, America’s only Oculas owner is rapper The Game, who imported his $100,000 version last month.
Created by British designer Lee McCormack and the team that built the Mercedes SLR McLaren, the 51/2-foot-high, 143-pound fiberglass pod comes with everything you need for TV watching, DVD screening, video-game playing, music listening and Internet surfing.
Optional features include a massage chair with a virtual meditation coach and a production suite for making your own videos.
“Despite all the recent advancements in digital media, the environment in which they’re used has not changed one iota,” McCormack told The Post.
“The Oculas lets you step inside today’s technology – quite literally.”
Disney’s Buena Vista Pictures, which bought 25 prototypes last year, used them to promote the movie “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” overseas.
McCormack plans to officially launch the product in New York in May, with showrooms opening in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and here four months later. (p. 22 Metro)
