A Brooklyn man died of an apparent heart attack Saturday while in police custody after having been arrested for driving with a suspended license, sources said yesterday.
Andres Otero, 49, who lived on Division Avenue, was driving with his wife and daughter when he allegedly made an illegal U-turn at East 106th Street and Third Avenue in East Harlem at 4:50 p.m. and was pulled over, authorities said.
When it was learned that his license had been suspended, he was placed in the back seat of a squad car, where he began having difficulty breathing.
Sources said the arresting officers immediately got an ambulance to rush him to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died.
Officials said that Otero’s medical history had included heart trouble and that the city’s medical examiner was expected to perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
