DEAD TOT FOUND IN LAUNDRY

A worker at a Long Island laundry company made a horrifying discovery: a dead newborn tangled in a delivery of soiled hospital sheets, cops said yesterday.

The dead girl had been born Sunday afternoon at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside only 22 weeks into her mother’s pregnancy, and died 30 minutes later, authorities said.

The tot, found Tuesday night at Oceanside Linen Services, weighed only 10 ounces and measured 10 inches.

“It would appear that somebody in the hospital saw the blankets lying on the trundle in the refrigerated unit [at the hospital morgue], thought it was soiled or old linens, and placed it in the laundry receptacle,” said Nassau County Detective Lt. Dennis Farrell.

The baby’s mom reportedly called a local news cable-TV channel yesterday after seeing early reports of the incident.

“I just wanted to bring my daughter home, but I couldn’t bring her home the natural way,” the mother, identified only as Vema, told News 12. “I wanted to have her cremated.”

The grieving mother added that the baby, Isabella Rosa, was deeply loved despite her short life.

After Isabella died, an attending physician carried her body to the hospital morgue, where it was placed in a refrigerated drawer.
