A Bronx man used his unassuming mother to lure his ex-girlfriend out of her apartment so he could propose marriage – but when she declined, he viciously stabbed her, cops and witnesses said.
The victim’s dad was also stabbed several times – but saved his daughter’s life when he grabbed the knife out of the hands of her murderous ex and slashed him repeatedly, witnesses said.
The former beau, Jesus Nieves, 24, was in a critical condition in Jacobi Hospital last night after turning up to the Vyse Avenue apartment about 9:30 p.m. Thursday with a bouquet of roses, a ring and his mother in tow.
The victim, Jessica Guerrero, 21, and her dad, Dimas, 52, were in stable condition at St. Barnabas hospital.
“He did this in front of his mom,” Guerrero’s shocked cousin, Anny Morales, 24, told The Post yesterday.
Morales said Nieves’ mother, Aleida Arreondo, knocked on the Guerrero family’s front door, causing the targeted young woman to walk out into the hall to speak to the older woman.
“She wouldn’t step outside if it was him,” Morales said. “She only went outside because the mother was there.”
Suddenly, Morales said, Nieves sprang up from behind his mom and proposed to the shocked woman.
Guerrero – who had broken off the abusive relationship last week after six years together – refused the offer, sending Nieves into a frenzy.
Neighbors said he stabbed the woman about 20 times before her father ran out and Nieves turned the knife on him.
Despite being stabbed in the chest, neighbors said Dimas Guerrero managed to grab the knife out of Nieves’ hand and started furiously cutting him.
Blood covered the fifth-floor hall yesterday as Guerrero’s friends and family described how Nieves had tried to flee the building, blood streaming from him, after he hacked his victims.
Cops said neither Guerrero was charged with a crime. Charges against Nieves are pending.
Neighbors and relatives said the young Guerrero had tried to break up with Nieves, but he wouldn’t accept it.
“He’s always stalking her. He went ballistic one more time before this, screaming, pushing, but with no weapon,” a neighbor said.
