A bolting police horse took his star turn on the Great White Way yesterday when he trotted 15 blocks through the
heart of Times Square before being collared by red-faced cops.
Roy,the crime-fighting steed, got loose around Columbus Circle, possibly as he was being saddled, and took off down
Broadway, with two NYPD cars in hot pursuit.
Traffic parted as the bizarre caravan made it all the way to West 44th Street. “All I saw was a horse hauling ass down Broadway,” said Starbucks worker Fitz Murray,20, who was handing out coffee samples when Roy raced by.”I ain ‘t never seen nothing like that.I ‘m from Brooklyn – I thought I was in the country for a minute.”
Police spokesmen kept a tight rein on details about the incident yesterday, refusing to say how it happened.
“People were pointing and laughing,” said Matt Beardi,23,a sign hanger who was working in Times Square at around
11 a.m.when the horse went past him.”It was pretty funny to see a horse running through Times Square.Traffic
pretty much came to a halt.”
Roy ‘s escape came to an end when a mounted cop headed him off and grabbed his reins. She saddled him up and
trotted back up Broadway.
