TWO of Washington’s most powerful and sought-after political consultants, James Carville and Mary Matalin, have been rebuffed by dozens of high-school-age politicians.
The pair was supposed to be filming a new Lifetime reality series called “Election,” in which the married couple – he’s a Democrat who orchestrated Bill Clinton’s first presidential campaign, she’s a Republican who consults for the Bush administration – advises high-school candidates running for class president.
But officials at about half a dozen schools in the Washington, D.C., area have turned down the free advice from two of the nation’s most successful political brains, saying the production would be too disruptive, according to the Washington Post.
Only one area school that was approached has yet to say no.
“It certainly has the potential to be a good learning experience – to work with two very highly esteemed professionals in their field,” said an official from an Arlington, Va. school district. “We’re waiting for them to come back to us.”
The show had been expected to debut later this year. Now it’s not likely even to begin filming until 2007.
