OYSTERS – OPEN AND CLOSED

GRACE and Jack Lamb always seem to be tweaking their tiny restaurants: The owners of Jewel Bako and Jack’s Luxury Oyster Bar on East Sixth Street have closed Jewel Bako Makimono at 101 Second Ave.

Another spin-off, Jewel Bako Robata on East Fifth Street, which featured grilled meats and seafood, closed last year. It was replaced by Grace’s Kalbi Bar – a 16-seat Korean place – that was in turn replaced by Spanish-themed Degustation.

The 20-seat Jewel Bako Makimoto replaced the Lamb’s Blue Goose concept two years ago. Now we hear it will be the new home of Jack’s Luxury Oyster Bar.

Does everybody understand, now?

* After almost 20 years, the large Upper East Side space that houses Dock’s Oyster Bar is being shopped around by brokers.

Sources say the lease of the 9,000-square-foot restaurant at 633 Third Ave. will expire next year, and that the owners may not renew the lease.

Broker Jeffrey Roseman at Newmark could not be reached for comment

* We couldn’t help but chuckle when we saw where Ted Turner is locating the first New York City branch of his bison steak and burger restaurant chain.

Ted’s Montana Grill will open to the public on Sept. 27 at the Time & Life Building (110 W. 51st St.) at Rockefeller Center – where the Mouth of the South butted heads with Time execs and was stripped of all operational powers in 2001.

* Providence Restaurant & Lounge has a new executive chef and menu. The West 57th Street venue, a beautifully renovated space formerly occupied by the infamous Le Bar Bat, has hired Robert Cangelosi to introduce his New American cuisine.

He replaces chef Margherita Aloi and her Mediterranean fare. Cangelosi began as a sous chef at the Russian Tea Room and later moved on to the Waldorf-Astoria.
