Terrorists used a liquid explosive to destroy a Korean airliner in a plot to disrupt the 1988 Summer Olympics, which were being held in Seoul.
Officials said 115 people died when Korean Airlines Flight 858 exploded Nov. 29, 1987, over the Indian Ocean.
Suspicion quickly fell on two passengers who had left the plane at its previous stop.
The elderly man and young woman, who were detained for questioning, bit into cyanide capsules hidden in cigarettes.
The man died, but the woman survived, confessing that they were North Korean agents directed to terrorize their South Korean enemies by attacking the plane.
