The city today is releasing more tragic emergency recordings from the Sept. 11 attacks – including 911 calls from 10 victims inside the crumbling World Trade Center towers, other people near the site and several recordings from firefighters responding to the scene.
But only the voices of the 911 operators will be heard; the callers’ comments have been redacted to protect their privacy.
The 911 tapes include recordings of 1,613 phone calls, including 21 from FDNY mmebers who died.
One of the calls was placed by Melissa Doi, who died on the 83rd floor of the south tower.
The recording of her call was used as evidence in the criminal trial against Zacarias Moussaoui, who pleaded guilty to six 9/11 terrorism-conspiracy charges and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Doi’s will be the only caller’s voice heard.
Calls also came in from other people near Ground Zero, including good Samaritans helping others injured in the attacks.
The voices on these calls are also redacted.
