The new Yankee Stadium has begun a new winning tradition.
A Manhattan judge yesterday handed the Yankees and their new $950 million stadium a major victory when he denied an 11th-hour bid by an environmental group to halt construction on the new ballpark. Work begins today.
The group “Save Our Parks” charged proper environmental reviews had not been completed, complaining that 377 trees will have to be uprooted in two parks.
But Justice Herman Cahn disagreed, saying “the trees are not owed more deference than the community as a whole.”
A team spokesman said “we will move ahead to provide a modern, wonderful new Yankee Stadium and also see to it that the community enjoys new parklands.”
