BLOOD TEA AND RED STRING
(three stars)
WHO needs computers? Certainly not L.A. artist Christiane Cegavske, who uses old-fashioned stop-animation in the wordless fairy tale “Blood Tea and Red String.”
Thirteen years in the making, “Blood Tea” tells of the battle between the White Mice and the Creatures Who Dwell Under the Oak for possession of a beautiful doll.
Seemingly inspired by Czech surrealist Jan Svankmajer (“Little Otik”), with a tad of David Lynch thrown in, “Blood Tea” was written, produced, animated and directed by Cegavske, who provided the animated sequences in Asia Argento’s unappreciated “The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things.”
Her “Blood Tea” is an original head trip definitely not recommended for kiddies.
Running time: 69 minutes. Not rated (mature themes). At the Two Boots Pioneer Theater, Avenue A and Third Street.
