‘DR. Phil” has shuttered the swanky “Big Brother“-type house featured in on-air segments after neighbors complained of unruly guests.
The “Dr. Phil House,” located in L.A.’s Wilshire district, is featured every Monday on “Dr. Phil.” Guests live there while dealing with drug abuse, racism and other issues.
But according to tmz.com, neighbors were successful in lobbying the city to evict the show after dealing with unbearable noise problems, visible cables and “Dr. Phil’s” disruptive, nasty production crew.
“Two crack addicts were yelling at each other for all to hear,” one neighbor, Tom Griep, told tmz.com. He said the show regularly taped past midnight and began the next day’s shooting before 7 a.m. – violating a city ordinance.
Fed-up neighbors collected 76 signatures on a petition, hoping to evict the show from the premises.
The L.A. City Council met last month and decided to shut down production – warning the show never to tape there again.
The show says the house, purchased last June by host Phil McGraw’s production company, was never intended to be the only “Dr. Phil House.”
“Our primary objective has always been to be extremely respectful of the neighbors, and we have accommodated their requests whenever any have arisen,” the show said in a statement to tmz.com.
” ‘The Dr. Phil Show’ has completed filming at this location, which was never intended to be the only site of the ‘Dr. Phil House.’ “
