Gov. Jeb Bush yesterday warned that New York City should brace for an outcry when it assigns letter grades to public schools next spring, joking he still has “tire marks on my forehead” from unveiling a similar initiative in Florida seven years ago.
“It was very problematic to begin with because there is a stigma attached to a low grade,” he said.
Under the city’s plan, each of the 1,450 schools would be graded on student progress, performance on standardized exams and school environment.
