A Manhattan cop has been arrested for allegedly raping a female child relative, sources said yesterday.
Officer Angel Negron, a 16-year veteran of the force assigned to the 19th Precinct on the Upper East Side, was suspended without pay.
The victim went to police last month at the urging of a family friend, sources said.
The girl said the alleged abuse lasted five years, beginning when she was 8, and ending in 2004 when she was 12, sources said.
The cop is charged with four sex crimes -including the rape charge – that allegedly occurred in his Staten Island home.
Negron was arrested Friday at 8 p.m. at the 120th Precinct station house in Staten Island after he was questioned by NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau.
At his arraignment the following day, which some 50 of Negron’s cop buddies attended in support, prosecutors asked for $100,000 bail. The officer was released on his own recognizance after a plea of not guilty.
The NYPD did not make public Negron’s arrest until yesterday. It was unknown why the collar was kept under wraps.
However, police were quick to publicize Saturday’s DWI arrest of an off-duty firefighter on Staten Island, releasing the information within hours.
