HELEN Mirren – who is riding a wave of adulation for her role in the hit movie, “Queen” – is heading back to TV next month in the final installment of “Prime Suspect” on PBS.
As the odds-on favorite to win the Oscar for best actress this year, it may well be the last time she’ll appear in an original TV show.
The latest “Prime Suspect,” slated to air on two Sunday nights, Nov. 12 and 19, focuses on the hunt for the killer of a schoolgirl and Deputy Chief Inspector Jane Tennison’s impending retirement.
The final installment debuted Sunday on British TV to the night’s highest ratings – 7 million viewers.
There have been seven “Prime Suspect” miniseries since its debut on British TV in 1991. All seven installments have aired in the U.S. on PBS’ “Masterpiece Theatre.”
Mirren vowed several times in the past that she was through playing the detective, only to be coaxed back for one more story.
