THE FCC has turned down a request to give equal time on the “Tonight” show to the candidate running against California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Phil Angelides, Schwarzenegger’s Democratic opponent. demanded 15 minutes on Jay Leno – exactly the same amount of airtime Schwarzenegger got when he appeared on the show earlier this month.
The campaign said that Leno was trying to help out his friend in the election and that the governor was not otherwise newsworthy.
The FCC ruled that the Democrats did not show evidence that Leno was “attempting to promote” Schwarzenegger’s campaign. It said the Angelides’ claim “is based on little more than speculation.”
