One and done! Sun was shining yesterday at Big A after Saturday’s cancellation due to heavy rain and high winds, but winds were still gusting, and rest of card was shelved after riders held meeting following first race.
“For the safety of everyone and the horses, we decided to cancel,” jockey John Velazquez explained. “It’s just that the wind was way too strong to have control of the horses, and they say it’s only going to get worse.”
Aqueduct remained open for simulcasting; racing resumes Wednesday. Yesterday’s two stakes for 2-year-olds, the Tempted and Nashua, were re-scheduled for Friday.
