CASTING CALL ON UTUBE

THE classic early 1900s tale “Anne of Green Gables” is getting a decidedly 21st century twist.

Producers are casting a new prequel – featuring the beloved, feisty Canadian redhead – from videos posted by young hopefuls on YouTube, the Internet video-clip powerhouse.

Producers are urging girls 10 to 12 years old to post video tapes of themselves playing the title character, Anne Shirley, for a chance to star in the movie “Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning.”

The film will tell the story of Anne Shirley, the precocious little girl, before she was adopted by a brother and sister in the early 1900s to work on their farm on Prince Edward Island, Canada.

The original book by Lucy Maude Montgomery was published in 1908 and was followed with seven sequels. The characters have appeared in seven different movies since and a slew of television shows, a Japanese anime series and are the cornerstone of the tourism industry on Prince Edward Island.
