N.Y.C. FOR RUDY IN ‘08: IT’S NOT IN THE BAG

Bravest boss? Where was Steve Cassidy when the towers went down (“Union Big Opens ‘Fire’ on Giuliani,” July 1)?

I lost loved ones on 9/11 and believe that Mayor Rudy Giuliani was a mayor for all the people in the city, not just the firefighters.

Cassidy, stop the political nonsense – like the fact that you’re endorsing Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Can you name just one thing that she has done for New York?

I have many friends who are firefighters, and I value their opinions over yours.

As a former firefighter and a 9/11 survivor, I’m not sure that I’d like to see Giuliani in the White House. But I could not disagree more with UFA President Cassidy’s attacks on him.

If Giuliani is unfit to lead the nation, what makes Cassidy think that Clinton or Sen. John McCain are fit?

Has Cassidy forgotten that Clinton was “co-president” when her husband’s malfeasance in office directly lead to the 9/11 attacks that killed so many of our brothers?

If the Clintons had attacked terrorists the way Cassidy is attacking Giuliani, 9/11 never would have happened.

And McCain is a “loose cannon” who co-sponsored a bill that directly infringes upon our First Amendment rights. I’d never want to see him in the Oval Office.

While it is true that Giuliani made some grievous errors in regard to the bunker and radios, he’s not the only one who made a mistake on 9/11.

I’m no Giuliani booster, but I find it ironic that Cassidy would find it necessary to speak out against Giuliani and his actions leading up to and on 9/11.

If memory serves, this is the same Cassidy who endorsed Clinton in her last campaign for the Senate. Did Cassidy forget that it was Clinton’s husband who allowed al Qaeda to build up strength and attack American interests around the world with immunity in the years leading up to 9/11?

Does Cassidy’s hypocrisy have something to do with his own political ambitions?

My brother was an FDNY lieutenant who was killed on 9/11. Next to the terrorists, I lay most of the blame at the feet of President Bill Clinton and his inaction regarding terrorism and not on the actions of Giuliani.

Giuliani is upset with the firemen?

Well, Giuliani had better wake up. Cops feel exactly the same way about him.

Giuliani talks a big game, but his zeros-for-heroes labor contract will be paying him no dividends on election day.

When the FDNY and the NYPD campaign against Giuliani next year, it will cause many people around the country to rethink his role on 9/11.

It will result in his campaign losing a couple of closely contested swing states, and he will lose the election.

I couldn’t agree more that Rep. Jerrold Nadler should “Let Rudy Speak” (Editorial, July 1) before his legislative hearing on the issues about what the city did and didn’t do at Ground Zero.

This will provide legislators with the opportunity to ask Giuliani questions that the 9/11 Commission failed to ask.

He can explain the failure of the fire department radios on 9/11, the placement of the city’s Office of Emergency Management at 7 World Trade Center and his administration’s failure to address security and safety issues at the World Trade Center following the 1993 terrorist attack.

Yes, by all means, let Rudy speak and answer these questions.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that the Democrats won’t ask Giuliani to speak. After all, this committee isn’t looking for the truth, it’s looking to embarrass both the Bush administration and the Republican Party for the 2008 election.

If this committee really wanted the truth, Giuliani would have been invited to answer the committee’s questions to clear the air and explain what the city did and didn’t do.

The second attack was more devastating then the first in 1993 because of the lack of response by Clinton.

It gave the Islamist terrorists the incentive to try again and to be more bold in their attack.

As for Nadler, the Democrats and those who live in Manhattan, they’ll always be anti-American, even if some claim otherwise.

The last thing Nadler and his cohorts want is firsthand knowledge from Giuliani about Ground Zero.

That’s why their approval ratings are so low.
