The cost of repairing storm-damaged equipment at the Lasker Pool in Central Park came in at $1.9 million, more than double the $800,000 projected by the Parks Department.
“The $800,000 figure was estimated by in-house trades personnel after an initial walk-through of the site and is comprised of rough estimates,” John Natoli, chief engineer for the Parks Department, explained in a June 14 letter to Comptroller William Thompson.
The Parks Department rushed a repair contract so the popular Harlem pool could open on schedule July 1 after an April 15 Nor’easter.
