JAWS (1975)
Monday, 9:30 p.m., TCM
It wouldn’t be the summer without the Great White making a return visit to eat tourists and scare the hell out of everyone else! The great classic pits sheriff Roy Scheider, crusty fisherman Robert Shaw, and do-gooder marine biologist Richard Dreyfuss against not just a giant shark but also the town’s shark of a mayor. This great white’s a great one!
THIS IS SPINAL TAP (1984)
Tuesday, 9 p.m., VH1
Director Rob Reiner and genius writer Christopher Guest teamed up for this mockumentary about the world’s loudest has-been metal band, the fictional Spinal Tap. The movie pretends to follow the band’s disastrous comeback tour, supplying plenty of laughs in this all-too-real fake tour complete with backstage goings-on.
UNITED 93 (2006)
Wednesday, 8 p.m., Max
A faithful, somber recreation of the events surrounding the 9/11/2001 flight that turned ordinary passengers into heroes. The story begins with the terrorists’ morning call to prayer and the passengers’ mundane morning routines and proceeds through the actual events of the flight that will live in infamy. With David Alan Basche, Lewis Alsamari, Omar Berdouni, Susan Blommaert.
HOTEL RWANDA (2004)
Thursday, 8 p.m., Ch. 9
Don Cheadle does a breathtakingly beautiful job playing Paul Rusesabagina, the manager of a hotel in Rwanda who saved the lives of 1200 refugees of war, in this true story. How did he do it? By being a competent manager, that’s how. Cheadle and Sophie Okonedo were robbed of the Oscars they richly deserved. Don’t miss it.
