John D’Amato, a prominent Staten Island Republican who ran former Mayor Rudy Giuliani‘s presidential campaign in New York, died while jogging over the weekend.
He had worked with several Republicans, including Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro and City Council Minority Leader James Oddo.
“John D’Amato was a great Staten Islander in every meaning of those words. He was a leader among leaders,” said Mayor Bloomberg, whom D’Amato supported.
D’Amato, 52, an attorney and lobbyist, also served on the board of NYC 2012, which headed city’s unsuccessful bid to bring the Olympics to the Big Apple.
