It was, Marcus Williams admitted, pretty much what he expected: 28 points, five assists, six rebounds, 10-of-17 shooting. OK, maybe a little more than expected, but nothing outlandish.
“I think so,” Williams said when asked if he expected that type of effort as the Nets evened their record at 1-1 with a 73-65 victory over Miami in the Pepsi Summer League in Orlando yesterday. “I played decent here last year, then played an NBA season. I just tried to attack the rim, get in the paint and find someone if they collapsed.”
Success on all accounts. And Sean Williams, this year’s first-round pick, had a little better effort after an awful opener – six points, six rebounds and six fouls in 30 minutes. Summer league rules permit players to remain in games after six fouls – Sean Williams committed eight Monday.
“He looked better. Sean is very active and that’s good,” said Marcus Williams. “It’s not really a case of rust. It’s just so different from college. It’s a difficult transition.”
Robert Hite, a shooting guard who was with the Heat last season, is 7-of-9 on 3-pointers with 29 points in the two games for the Nets.
