The Rangers re-signed their star goalie Henrik Lundqvist to a one year deal worth $4.5M today. The move lets the Rangers avoid arbitration, but — as had already been said ad nauseam — also leaves little room under the $50.3 million salary cap for next season.
The 25-year-old Lundqvist went 37-22-8 with a 2.34 goals-against average in 70 games last season — his second stint in the NHL. His 37 wins are second only to Mike Richter for the most victories in a single season in Rangers history. Henke, as he’s called in his native Sweden, led his country’s national team to 2006 Olympic Gold at Turin.
