This review is based on the large-format 3-D version of “Beowulf” showing at the Lincoln Square IMAX, where the regular admission charge is $16. It’s also being shown in a digital 3-D edition on conventional-size screens at the Empire, the Union Square and the 84th Street. These venues are charging a $2 3-D surcharge on top of their regular prices, for a total of between $13.25 and $14. Seven other Manhattan theaters – including the Kips Bay, the Chelsea and the Battery Park City – are showing a non-3-D version, which was not screened for critics, at regular prices.
