The Grinch has stolen Thanksgiving from the residents of 2499 Grand Ave. in The Bronx.
The 48-family Fordham building has been without gas service for more than two months.
Margarita Molasco has lived in her two-bedroom apartment for 30 years, and has always made the Thanksgiving meal for her four kids and nine grandkids in her own oven.
She’s devastated that won’t be the case today.
“They always come to my house, except this year,” said Molasco, 55. “I love to cook for them, and sit down and watch them eat my food.”
The gas first went off on Sept. 6 after Con Edison was called for a leak in the area. But before it could be turned back on, the various valves and pipes of the building had to be checked thoroughly.
That process has taken two months.
Landlord Jacob Selechnik says the reasons for the gas still being off are beyond his control: tenants not being in their apartments when tests need to be done; a flea infestation in the basement that prevented Con Ed from working; and the crumbling infrastructure of the pre-war five-story building.
“I’m trying to do the right thing,” Selechnik said.
