New Yorkers who call the city’s 311 hot line because they don’t have enough food for their families will get help from operators trained to handle their emergencies, Mayor Bloomberg announced yesterday. Until this week, callers who dialed 311 for emergency food aid were connected to an automated information line.
Beginning today, New Yorkers who call 311 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays will speak with someone who will be able to direct them to a food bank in their neighborhood.
