From V.A. Musetto at Tokyo Filmex: Johnnie To rules! “Exiled,” the Hong Kong cult director`s bloody salute to spaghetti Westerns, took the audience prize at the festival`s closing-night festivities Sunday in Tokyo`s Ginza district (a mix of the bright lights of Times Square and the chic shops of Fifth Avenue, only more civilized). To is a favorite in Asia as well as the US, where “Exiled” received mostly rave reviews when it debuted in August. (I gave it three stars.) In addition, “Eye in the Sky,” helmed by Yau Nai-hoi, a frequent To screenwriter, picked up Filmex`s “special jury” (runner-up) prize. The main laurel went to the Israeli drama “Tehilim” (pictured) by Raphael Nadjari. It tells of a religious family coping with the mysterious disappearance of its father-husband. And so the eighth edition of this up-and-coming film gathering is history. Now I`m preparing for a 13-hour flight back to New York and reality. Sayonara!
