So many official parking placards are being used improperly that “a lot of them should not be given out,” Mayor Bloomberg declared yesterday in his strongest comments attacking privileged parkers.
“It is clearly something that has been abused,” the mayor said, reacting to a story in Sunday’s Post that listed, for the first time, the bewildering array of city, state and federal agencies that have qualified for permits from the city’s Department of Transportation.
In 2007, permits went to 149 entities – including sales representatives for the state lottery, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the public-affairs offices of the various armed services.
Deputy Mayors Ed Skyler and Dan Doctoroff are studying how to limit the permits.
