A Brooklyn jury will decide this week whether to award $2 million to a Bedford-Stuyvesant man cops allegedly shoved down a flight of stairs while he was handcuffed.
Clinton Browne, 33, told jurors last week his hands were cuffed behind his back when a police lieutenant, who was arresting him for allegedly tossing a teacup at his sister-in-law, sent him tumbling head first.
“I was in shock,” Browne testified, wiping tears as he recalled the July 1, 2002, incident. “I was moving kind of slowly and I heard him say, ‘Let’s move it along,’ and that’s when I felt the shove in my back.
“I couldn’t believe I was on the ground. I was in a lot of pain . . . I couldn’t move. I was screaming.”
The misdemeanor charge against Browne was eventually dropped.
The City Law Department declined to comment.
Lawyer Seth Harris said the NYPD must improve officer training.
