$OME ‘ENCHANTED’ EVENINGS AT THE MOVIES

Moviegoers made the magic last, keeping the charmer “Enchanted” the weekend’s top box-office draw, studio estimates showed yesterday.

The Disney tale, which had the second-best Thanksgiving-weekend opening ever, pulled in $17 million over the weekend beginning Friday.

Another seasonal hit, the dramedy “This Christmas,” held on to its No. 2 spot, with $8.4 million, and “Beowulf” completed the “three-peat,” remaining in third place with a $7.9 million haul.

MGM’s horror-chiller “Awake,” released without a reviewers’ screening, opened at No. 4 with $6 million, significantly lower than industry estimates.

Strong openers in limited release included the family drama “The Savages,” starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Laura Linney as siblings who must care for their ailing father. It earned $153,121 from four theaters, two apiece in New York and Los Angeles.

“The Diving Bell and the Butterfly,” director Julian Schnabel’s fact-based depiction of a paralyzed editor who dictates a book by blinking his eye, earned a combined $75,300 at three theaters.
