Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens will be named in the Mitchell Report in connection with performance enhancing drugs, ESPN The Magazine is reporting.
A source close to Brian McNamee, who worked for the Yankees and as a personal trainer for Clemens and Andy Pettitte, says information McNamee supplied to the George Mitchell investigation regarding supplying Clemens with steroids is included in the report.
The source also told investigators that on at least one occasion, Clemens was in possession of steroids from another supplier, the source told the magazine.
McNamee told investigators he supplied Clemens with steroids while Clemens was with the Yankees, and prior to Clemens joining the team, the source said.
Earlier today, The Bergen (N.J.) Record, citing a baseball industry official, said “several” prominent Yankees will be named in the Mitchell report. The paper said the source spoke to a third party who had seen the final report.
Clemens returned to the Yankees in May, pitching another season during which he turned 45. After debuting in 1984, Clemens has compiled 354 wins.
Clemens was mentioned in Jose Canseco’s book, “Juiced,” which detailed steroid use by several other prominent players, including Mark McGwire, and led to the Senate hearings which eventually resulted in the need for the Mitchell Report.
Clemens won seven Cy Young Awards, most all time, and World Series championships with the Yankees in 1999 and 2000.
