Though indications continue to point to Chad Pennington starting for the Jets against the Titans Sunday in Nashville, Kellen Clemens made a rather dramatic step forward today compared to yesterday in practice.
Clemens, who yesterday didn’t throw in practice and didn’t even use his left arm to catch tossed balls, today was throwing in the early part of practice and he took first snaps in some drills.
Eric Mangini, who said today nothing has changed from yesterday in terms of his decision, clearly wants Clemens to start these last two games so he can continue to evaluate Clemens for the future.
As for Pennington, he spoke today about not wanting to think about his future with the Jets at the moment. Pennington said there will be “evaluations” made on “both sides” about it.

Laveranues Coles today was given an annual award called “The Eskenazi,’’ an honor presented to the Jets’ “Good Guy’’ who’s most media friendly. The award, named after Eskenazi, the former long-time Jets beat writer for The New York Times, is voted on by the writers who cover the team regularly.
Coles, who came into the league as a player who wanted nothing to do with the media, has evolved into one of the most engaging personalities on the team. He, too, is a team captain.
